About Us

V.M. Ritter founded Ritter Insurance in 1936. He was a community leader and long time manager of the local Grahams Department Store. When he was ordered to move to another town, he decided not to leave Winterset. Instead he purchased an existing insurance agency and started his new career. Later his sons, Loren and Kenneth, joined him in the insurance business. Kenneth Ritter was also a community leader and was active in the agency until his death in 1981. The current owner is Leon Hendricks, the son-in-law of Kenneth Ritter. He joined Ritter Insurance in 1979 and has been involved in several service and business groups in Winterset.

Finding Ritter Insurance is easy. We are located on the North side of the square in Winterset Iowa.
Come into downtown Winterset and go west on Jefferson (Across the street from the Madison Co. Courthouse) and there we are.
