V.M. Ritter founded Ritter Insurance in 1936. He was a community leader and longtime manager of the local Grahams Department Store. When ordered to move to another town, he refused. Instead he purchased an existing insurance agency and started his new career. Later his sons Loren and Kenneth joined him in the business. Kenneth Ritter was also a community leader and active in the agency until his death in 1981. The current owner is his son-in-law, Leon Hendricks. He joined Ritter Insurance in 1979 and has been involved in several service and business groups in Winterset.

Finding Ritter Insurance is easy. We are located  at 55 E. Jefferson Street, on the north side of the square in Winterset across the street from the Madison County Courthouse.
